John Roberts - Lib Dem candidate

I've just heard that a man named John Roberts is the Lib Dem candidate for Princes Ward.

I can't seem to find much online presence for him (same with Michael Poole-Wilson), but it appears that he was/is a director of Vauxhall City Farm according to the RCDT website here. Also on the RCDT site, somebody called John Roberts (am assuming the same one) won a Lambeth Civic Award for promoting equality in Lambeth, for work related to the police.

The battle will presumably hot up from here on in, but you'll hear the news from Lurking about SE11 first... :)

I still want to know if there are any other candidates from green or independent parties standing. Please drop me a comment/email if you know anything.

Genuinely surprised that John Roberts is standing - he resigned from local projects six months ago after he was thrown off the MPA by Boris, bought a house in Whitstable and told everyone he was moving away. Why didn't they pick a local candidate?

John Roberts was not kicked off MPA, by Boris as he had nothing to do with the re-selection. His biological mum lives in Whitstable, with his step dad. He spent a lot of time down there as they are getting on a bit. (he lived in a children's home in London s a child, before he was fostered)He resigned from all his voluntary work after 20 years of volunteering in north Lambeth and had a well earned rest for a few months. He is a local candidate and has lived on the Ethelred for 15 years, How more local can you be.

I know John Roberts he has lived on the Ethelred estate for the past 15 years! - how local do you want? I think it is bit rich Labour spreading untrue rumours when the Labour councillor who resigned the Princes seat lived in Bristol for the past 1 and half years whilst still serving as a councillor in Lambeth, claimed £10,000 in expenses and only attended 2 council meetings!

I first met john when he was volunteering at kennington park estate community centre (in 1989) my son went to the youth club and john raised money to open the centre more nights. He then became chair of vauxhall City farm. He personally raised 20k to keep the farm open a few years back. i dont think its all about going to commitee meetings, but actually doing the work. you talk to anyone that is involved in the farm and you will know that a lot of his work is not known about. He was also chair of the vauxhall ridding for the disabled and raised enough money to buy a few horses through sponsorship schemes. (do people know that??) I bumped into him at christmas at the farm where he had been organising the christmas festival in lambeth as a volunteer. (and still living on the Ethelred) He said that his dad died which is why he was taking some "time out".Then i meet him again at the local KA bazzer this year making tea in the kitchen, for people. Some of us might not like his politics, but you cant knock him for not giving a huge amount back to the local community. He has a better track record of giving his time to local people than any other canidates or councillors in donkey's years (farm pun)

Sorry, but however is trying to dirty John's name had better get their facts correct before they do. He's lived and supported the area for many years. Where was everyone else when Vauxhall City Farm was crying out for support, donations and volunteers? John 'mucked in' (so to speak) and was not only a vocal part of the MPA when he was part of it, but also received an award for his work for equality by Lambeth Council - the same Councillors I bet are now trying to dirty his name - shame on them! I'd like to see them do half the stuff that John's done!

I know John through his work at and for Vauxhall City Farm and I know his commitment to his local community. If elected you can be sure he will be tireless and selfless in his efforts to represent Princes Ward in a way which sadly the resigning member proved not to be. And I say this a member of the labour party.

I'm sad, but unsurprised to see Labour smearing their opponents on here.

How about some debate on the issues such as how well the council is being run?

It is typical of Lambeth Labour to issue disgusting smear campaigns against their opponents.
Hopefully they will have seen the strength of support there is for John out there and will not be issuing any more "anonymous" smear campaigns.

I met John briefly yesterday and I'm happy to say he's most likely secured my vote for Lib Dem. Even from a short conversation I could tell he's a good man with a very generous and giving nature, if only more people followed his example this would most likley be a better country.
